Posted July 28, 2008. 30 hrs, 795 miles on a five week old 2008 530 EXC-R. Same problem as above. Swell. The trans had about 450 cc's of oil and the engine had about 1150 cc's. Trans oil and engine oil were the same color and had obviously been recirculating. The trans had been filled with 900 cc's and the engine with 600 cc's 80 miles ago.

2010 450-EXC Oil Change Schedule Kyle_44 Posted February 12, 2013 I recently bought a 2010 KTM 450-EXC and the book calls for an oil change (engine and tranny) every 3 hours of riding time. I find that to be a little ridiculous, but have followed those guidelines so far.

I have an 06 450 EXC with over 180 hours. I check he valves every other oil change and have had to adjust the valves 3 times. The last 2 times the valves have been fine. A friend of mine had an 02 400 EXC with over 10000 miles, not sure of the hours, but it was probably in need of a rebuild.

Posted October 20, 2010. I just bought a 2009 KTM 450EXC and put 800 miles on it. I rode it for 3 hours with the original oil. At 3 hours I put in dino oil and ran it until 10 hours and ran synthetic since. I changed the oil every 8 hours and cleaned the air filter every ride. The KTM 's keep the motor oil and tranny oil in separate chambers. I run Maxima Maxum4 Ultra - full synthetic (5W40) in the motor and a synthetic blend in the tranny (at my dealers recommendation). He states the synthetic blend is better for the clutch. Maxima products are second to none. KTM recommends the same oil (sythetic) for both engine
Tighten all your case cover bolts, reinstall your kickstarter so it rests below the bottom edge of your fuel tank and then reassemble your rear brake. Fill the engine and gearbox with oil and add coolant. Start your bike and let it warm up enough to open the coolant thermostat; add coolant as required.
