There is a ground wire located on the left front shock tower that needs to be cleaned as it is a poor design. Clean it and or relocate it and the Engine ecu should power back up and the car should start. There are a lot of other possible problems but this is very common on these years of cars. Further to your suggestion of an impending battery failure I recharged the battery last night but had little success with only 11.5 volt by this morning. I purchased a new battery and everything is now tickety boo. The car started straight away and no immobiliser messages or any other messages come to that. The red immobiliser light has always flashed at about a 2 second speed when the ignition is off. That is what it is supposed to do. Are you saying that the engine won't start ? If I understand your post the engine does start and the immobiliser light goes out when the engine is running. If the key was not recognised then the engine would not start. Take the pats transponder off the steering column but leave it plugged in. With your new ignition cylinder installed turn the key to the run position for three seconds holding an original key up to the now dangling transponder ring. The theft light will be solid for three seconds and turn off if your holding the key correctly.

Use a flathead screwdriver to open the transponder key and get the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip. Be careful with this step so you don’t ruin the transponder key. Once you get the RFID chip, you can bypass the PATS system. Get the chip and place it close to the ignition.
